B.E. BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING (Introduced First Time in TamilNadu)
Biomedical engineering is an eight semester program, which applies the engineering knowledge in the field of medicine. Since it is interdisciplinary in nature, the course has topics related to medicine, electronics, electrical, and computer science. The course also has a two week hospital training program where the students will have a practical knowledge of what they learn in the course. We have faculties from various specializations like medical electronics, applied electronics, nanotechnology, bioinformatics, applied electronics etc. The department also has a doctor to handle subjects like anatomy, physiology, microbiology, pathology and assist devices. With the team of faculties of various specializations we are able to achieve quality education and also provide guidance for the students in their areas of interest in the project work. We have sufficient lab facility where the students can do in house projects implementing their knowledge in the practical applications.
The four year multi-disciplinary programme is designed to mould engineers who can serve in health care industry, medical equipment Manufacturing and servicing industry, in the areas of research where they can invent new machines as well as in IT companies developing medical software. The course prepares the students to work at the cutting edge of technology and advanced biological sciences. Health care professionals increasingly depend upon technology to confront problems and have to turn to the biomedical engineers for assistance.

This course has a great demand in India and in abroad, due to the improvement in the medical equipment’s quality and quantity day by day. Biomedical equipment’s and engineers always serve as a helping hand to the doctors. Biomedical engineering proves its importance by the invention of new devices which help in early diagnosis and safe treatment of various diseases thereby increasing the average lifetime of human beings. Biomedical helps to achieve longer and healthier lifestyle.
The importance of biomedical engineering in fast growing healthcare industry is now well acknowledged and consequently new career options are available to them in health care industries both nationally and internationally. Many of our graduates are employed in super specialty and multi specialty hospitals (both in India as well as Abroad), biomedical equipments manufacturing companies, medical equipment sales and service companies, IT companies and government departments. Many of our Alumni have completed their higher studies in prestigious universities in India, Australia, Singapore, Germany and USA and are now well placed.
